In the years that have followed, she has crafted a filmmaking career that spans various realms. She navigates the spaces between Bhubaneswar, New York, and Kampala; between the personal and the grand; and between Indian intricacies and universal appeal. To empower East African filmmakers to share their own narratives, she established the Maisha Film Lab in Uganda. She seamlessly transitioned through works like The Namesake, A Suitable Boy and Queen of Katwe; crossing continents, eras, and styles without being confined to any one of them. This represents a truly exceptional form of authority: one that doesn’t rely on a singular identity.
